Art World Video Series: Last Show at Armand Bartos features Warhol’s Soup Can

We went to Armand Bartos’ final exhibition before closing their doors to operate by appointment only. They chose to end on a high note with Andy Warhol’s soup can series following the artist’s role in transforming the Campbell’s Soup brand into an American icon. Limited edition prints and objects like an actual tin can were on view as were a few treasured relics.

Warhol produced a wide variety of art depicting the Campbell’s soup can image during three distinct phases of his career. The soup can image became known as the ultimate symbol of commerce and mass media and as it and other commercially popular images that he used became ubiquitous over time they helped to fuel Warhol’s reputation to the point where he was not only the most-renowned American pop art artist, but also the highest-priced living American artist.
